The Global Stress Summit & What I’ve Learned

I’ve been tuning into the Global Stress Summit this week where each day several experts speak on the subject of stress.

I have my go-to resources for how I personally cope with stress (yoga, meditation, immersing myself in nature, a relaxing bath with epsom salts & essential oils) and feel like I have a relatively decent understanding of the importance of managing stress and what can happen when you lose your center for too long, but I’m always interested in the chance to add to that knowledge, since it’s such a major part of disease, and an unavoidable part of our reality. Not everyone experiences stress the same, but everyone does feel the pressure that comes from not having enough time, energy or resources to get everything done.

The Many Benefits of Exercise

Growing up I always saw the benefits of exercise in a superficial way; to lose weight and to be fit. To me, fit meant not flabby, and that was about the extent of my education around it. So basically exercise if you want to improve your appearance, which was never a huge motivator for me (those of you who know me know I don’t know the first thing about make up.. and that my sense of style can be questionable).

Staying Healthy on the Road

So I’m going on a road trip this weekend to Montreal with a couple girl friends. I haven’t perused Montreal nearly as much as I’d like so I’m pretty excited.

I’m also thinking that I need to plan well so my health regimen doesn’t get too far off track. I’ve been pretty consistent lately making sure I have green juice every day, not eating after 8 pm (at least 2 hours before bed), avoiding processed and refined foods (white flour, sugar, packaged foods), and eating mindfully (rather than on the go, while working or in front of the tele).
When traveling, trying new foods, and exploring new places, it’s completely natural to treat yourself to a little more than you normally would (and you should!).I definitely want to enjoy myself and have a good time.Continue reading
